WIMW: Two Sequin clutches: Haul.

I am a magpie for sparkles.  They can be completely impractical, but I still gravitate towards them.  I purchased a(nother) sequin clutch this season.  I have been pretty good in the sales, so I don't feel too bad about purchasing this mermaid sequin clutch.  When I saw it, my heart skipped a beat (and my mouse clicked the clutch into my shopping bag!)

Isn't it pretty?  Love at first sight.  Mermaid Sequin Clutch.  Very spacious, faux leather back, internal zip pocket and TONNES of SEQUINS!  Unlike anything I own.  It is strikingly gorgeous and matches the shoes I blogged about in the last post!  I can see it paired with a black outfit, small heels and a cute jacket.  There aren't too many left but it is an affordable treat and a great January pick-me-up (link).


I purchased the one below in the summer it is now in the sale and sits perfectly for any season (winter festive sparkles, or a spring/summer wedding).  It is a mixture of silver and gold, meaning that it will compliment any jewellery.  The chain strap is delicate and can be be tucked inside, or kept on display if you prefer a more 'shoulder friendly and hands free' bag.  You can view further details here.

I am trying to be restrained, but something about sequins hypnotises me.  I also have a Michael Kors gold sequin fold clutch (sorry no photos*) so that brings my total to three... for now ;)

Sale Picks

Boxing Day Sales.  Got to love them!  It does get a bit annoying when you see something you picked up a few weeks ago, suddenly appear with a huge reduction!

These shoes by Steve Madden caught my eye.  They are gorgeous duo-chrome in a turquoise with petrol hue.  Be warned, the heel is high, though they are well made.  I picked them up full price but had to return them because I fall between sizes.  If you are looking for a New Year's Eve outfit (or just a bright shoe to wear to work, then I an recommend these (and they are now £41) at Dune (link) and House of Fraser (link).  If your size is not in stock, then keep checking for returns.  I have stalked many items which are 'out of stock' until the returns flood in.

It's no in the sale, but I can't recommend this black jumper with beaded collar enough.  I wore it on Christmas day and I was so warm.  I did take a few outfit photos so I will try to upload them shortly.  I went up a size and it fits really well (and is long enough!) so don't be afraid to go up a size.  (Link)

I am also stalking Hush Homewear online a fair bit.  They make lovely items (long items!), and the quality is good.  They currently have a pre-sale on (which is 20% off everything).  However their real sale starts January 6th (and I'll be pressing refresh from the minute I wake up!).

My feet get so cold (#TallProblems) so I purchased the most soft and fluffy boot slippers I have EVER found.  They are the Freya booties from Fat Face and have worn then everyday since.  My feet are toastie warm.  Sadly I paid full price in November, but they are now £15. (link)

I'm now going to check out the French Connection Sale- I normally pick up a few skirts or dresses from there, an don't find the lengths too bad (though I tend to go for midi or knee length skirts, not the minis!).

Free Topshop Lipstick & Haul

Typical, Topshop release a code for a free lipstick the day after I place a huge haul!  It hasn't arrived yet but I'll let you know how I get on.   I've ordered a knitted Olive skirt, two floppy felt fedora hats (I love the style, I'm just not sure if it will suit me) and a knitted heart jumper.  I think the jumper is a cropped style but I hope that I can wear it with some of my high waisted vintage skirts...  Topshop also have a good tall section which is worth a look.

I plan on wearing it with Beguiled lipstick, a gorgeous dark berry tone for Autumn (it's here and I recommend it, along with Macaroon though that is a more summery colour).

Find: Vintage Jewellery Antique Blue Broach

There is something very special about a pre-loved vintage item.  It has a story, history and is generally unique.    Hard to find, and hard to replace.  Vintage jewellery is something that always draws the magpie in me.  I have a few pieces which I will share with you on 5 foot 10 in due course.  Today I showcase my vintage antique blue stone broach.

This lovely item has stones arranged in a flower shape.  The stones (most likely blue glass with a glittery backing) are set into a sightly rose looking gold inlay.  In some antique broaches the spin locks can become loose so the broach comes undone and falls off easily.  Thankfully the clasp on this broach is holding up quite well.

I spotted this item in a local charity shop and paid the pricey sum of £6.  I would have paid a little bit more as I think it is gorgeous.  I'd love to know what stories it has to tell- cocktail parties (with glasses of Babycham?), graduation ceremonies, christenings, birthday....  It will jazz up my LBDs (Little Black Dresses) or any formal work outfit.  I'm not sure if I could dress it down, but I'm not sure I would want to.  It screams 'Vintage Hollywood Glamour' to me, and yes it is a bit of costume jewellery, but I've always thought Vintage Hollywood knew how to dress and present themselves.

I almost wish I could wear it back to front.

I can't really give you a link to buy one of these, but these sort of broaches do pop up on ebay (link) so do keep an eye on there, or do as I did and pop into your local charity shop.  You get a pre-loved item and the charity gets vital funds.

Haul: Dorothy Perkins Vintage Prints and Jewels

After a much needed back massage the other day, I floated into the shops to browse some of the new spring collections (it would be rude not to).  After a long winter, it's always a welcome sight to see spring peeping round the corner.  I found a lovely top and some nice jewellery at bargain prices in Dorothy Perkins which I thought I would share.

Have a heart?

 I picked up this blue and white long line vest top.  If you have a long body (like me) or just hate tops riding up (accidentally tummy flash) then long line tops are the way forward.  I wear vest tops almost daily underneath the rest of my clothes.  They add an extra layer, and keep things covered even when you are reaching for that gorgeous Chanel/Prada/Rebecca Minkoff handbag off the top shelf in Harrods.  I'm a fan of vintage-esque patterns and at just over £5 it was a bargain.  I couldn't find this exact top online but they have similar red one for £5.60 (link) and they have blue ones with capped sleeves (which are probably more wearable right now pre summer link).

Along with the top, I picked up a couple of pieces of costume jewellery for £1.60 and £2.40.  The glittery heart will add to any outfit and the earring and necklace set will add a bit of statement glamour.  I'd recommend having a look at Dorothy Perkins online and taking advantage of the 20% while its on.  It's also worth noting that if you are a student, Dorothy Perkins will give you a student discount on the sale items too.  Absolutely worth knowing! (I think the code TREAT20 might still work for 20% off, and I had a pop up for free next day delivery if I entered my email address when finding these items online).

Running With Scissors (Monki Haul)

One of the rare times I will post one of my other blog posts here!  This brand is worth a mention!  I have not tried the clothes yet, so I don't know if they are tall worthy, but it seems they do do a taller 34 inch range!! I am excited!  I still have three full (blush) bags of clothes to blog about so stay tuned!

"If you don't know who Monki are, they are a sister company of the Swedish brand Cheap Monday (see ASOS and Urban Outfitters for their range).  Both companies are actually owned by H&M.  For Cheap Monday, think skinny jeans, over sized t shirts and much more but not too cheap!  Monki however play on the quirkier side of things.  Just in case you were wondering, Monki is the little cute cartoon guy I posted on Twitter and Facebook yesterday as a teaser!

Monki have just set up their first flagship store in the UK (London, 39 Carnaby street if you are interested).  They also have a concession in Oxford street Selfridges, and I am hoping a few more will follow this year.

I visited their website last Saturday and placed a little order.  They didn't used to send items to the UK, but I think now their store is open in Carnaby street, they have started to offer this service.  I visited http://www.monki.com and placed an order there- be warned, it is all in euros, but a quick google will show you what the price translates as.  My order arrived Friday (quicker than they predicted) and delivery cost around £4-5 which isn't far different to other online shops in the UK.  My parcel came from Germany!

Scissor Necklace (link!) 

According to Monki, in some countries scissors are used to cast curses so I have to think positive thoughts while wearing this (and not run while wearing it)!  I just through it was unusual and wearable at work.  It is a bit longer than I thought- it falls mid bust length (a la 'Lorraine chain') but isn't as heavy as some other necklaces I have of that length, so hopefully I wont end up clonking this noisily on the table every time I sit down!

Love at first sight! Blimey Limey!

This clutch is bright imitation leather (blimey limey colour to be exact)!  It's a slight touch on the yellow side on lime green, and for me it means SPRING!  I also know that putting this with any plain outfit will immediately brighten it up.  I love the asymmetric flap front (fastened with a magnetic clasp in the bottom left corner).  Inside there is one zip pocket (and a cute tiny label with monki monster on)!  It is big enough to fit a slim purse, touch up makeup, phone, keys, gum and still a bit more.  The only thing I sort of wish for is that the whole thing zipped up under the flap- just in case I over fill it and cant used the magnetic clasp!  I guess I will have to restrain my inner bag content hoarder!!

Alana plait belt (link!) 

Retro belt!

This reminds me of vintage 70's belts.  It fastens through the plait so one size fits all!  I love the fact the buckle bit is wrapped, so the metal wont snag on any delicate fabrics.  I cant wait to wear this with my Siggi clutch!! €15

Dragonfly earrings (link!)

"I seen a Dragonfly, I ain't never seen a Donkey-fly!"

 I spotted these and thought they looked sweet.  They aren't real silver, and are on a par with New Look / Dorothy Perkins prices.  They are a bit bigger than I thought (bigger than a 50p piece!) but I will still get lots of wear out of these.

Verdict: I'm really pleased with my purchases.  I found the monki site easy to use, and love the level of detail from the mailing bags, website doodles and emails to the product tags (open them up!) and care labels.  It's not extortionate in price and the items feel good quality.   I hope to use these in some outfit of the day posts on my fashion blog 5 foot 10 but a few of you said you would like to see accessory posts here so I put this here first!

(Mega) Hauling.

Well, I have been a little quite, but I have been busy spending money ;o)  I had hoped to photograph these on me, but I have either been shivering my socks off wrapped in a chunky knit cardi (and no way was I going to to play dress up!) or busy pinging about the country for work/family things.  So my purchases have sat in bags accumulating!  Some of these were sales bargains, others werent. (That makes me feel a bit better about my spending!!)

Forever21, French Connection, ASOS, French Connection...

I thought I would result to taking pictures of the bags and a sneak peak and then post pictures of the items either flat or hung up, then hopefully take some pictures as I get dressed up for nights out/work (if I get ready in time!!  This is NOT a strong point for me!)

My question to you is does it make a difference if clothes are photographed on a person or just hung up?  Or do you just like seeing clothes?!
